| Congratulations to Kelsey Wieseler, Ashley Larson, Alec Oleson, and Austin Fordham for being selected to the 2012 South Dakota All State Band!! They were chosen through a competitive statewide audition process. The all state bands will meet in March for three days of intense rehearsal on difficult music, culminating with a final concert on March 24th.

| Congratulations to Gabbie Kramer, Hailey Hanson, Andrew Helm, Marlee Jones, Maggie Simon, and Megan Unzen for representing Groton at the Northeastern South Dakota Chapter MathCounts Competition at SDSU on Saturday and to Andrew, Marlee, Maggie, and Megan for earning third place in the team trophy division! Great season, mathletes! |

| Congratulations to Erin S. who was named Semifinalist and Finalist in the National Merit Scholarship Corp. Competition (PSAT). In the national competition, forty-two SD students were awarded semifinalist status. Semifinalists completed an application and essays and provided a qualifying SAT score to advance to finalist standing. As a finalist, Erin now competes for the National Merit Scholarships. This is Groton’s first finalist since the 2009 competition.

| Congratulations to Marah Smith who has been named as a candidate for the 2012 US Presidential Scholars Program. These 3000 candidates were named to this program from their scores on the SAT or the ACT. Nominated candidates to the program next complete an application and essays and from the candidates, 500 semifinalists will be selected in early April. This is Groton’s first nominated candidate since the 2009 competition.

| Groton Area Faculty spent the day hearing a presentation about the South Dakota Retirement System, formulating goals, learning of the Charlotte Danielson Framework for Teaching, and developing technology skills. Thanks to our presenters, Craig Ebert, Dr. Kono, and Mr. Aaron Helvig. Learning is certainly a lifelong endeavor. |
